How to Prevent Water Spots

After a rain or a good washing, owners might be left with water spots on the sides and windows of their car. Water spots occur when the water left sitting evaporates, leaving behind any mineral deposits or pollutants to create a slight outline of the spot. Hard water also tends to leave more water spots behind than soft water. Shurhold Industries offers products and tips to help prevent these unsightly blemishes on a vehicle’s surface.

First, owners should use a filtered hose to reduce pollutants and mineral deposits in the water. If only really hard water is available, then an inline water softener should be used, too.

Using a high-quality soap, such as Shurhold’s Brite Wash, can help prevent water spots, as they often contain an additive that softens the water. Owners shouldn’t use too much soap and rinse well when washing.

Brite Wash is scientifically formulated to clean fiberglass, clear coat, metal, rubber and painted surfaces. It cleans dirt, grease, salt and more without dulling finishes or stripping wax or polish.

The surface should be dried quickly while washing smaller areas. Owners should not let the vehicle dry in the sun. Wet areas should be squeegee dried, while any still damp surfaces should be wiped with a microfiber cloth or PVA towel to ensure they’re completely dry.

Shurhold’s 12″ SHUR-Dry Flexible Water Blade easily molds to curved surfaces, drying any surface in 1/3 the time. It’s made of rubber so it’s safe to use on even delicate areas and it eliminates water-spotting without chamois or towels.

The company’s SHUR-Dry PVA Towel can be used to wipe away any remaining wetness. It absorbs 50% more water than natural chamois, making for faster and more effective drying. The towel prevents water spots on all surfaces and comes in an extra-large size of 17″ x 27″.

Owners should also wax regularly. The wax prevents deposits from sinking into the surface and makes them much easier to remove with regular washing.

A 32 oz. bottle of Shurhold’s Brite Wash costs $11.98, while a one- gallon supply is $24.98. Shurhold’s Flexible Water Blade is $26.98 and the PVA Towel is priced at $16.98.
