The Top 6 Cleaning Tips for Effective and Easy Washing
Top 6 Cleaning Tips:
1. Always rinse down the area to be cleaned prior to washing. This helps remove any loose surface grime preventing you from scrubbing it into the finish.
2. “Dirty” rain can leave black streaks. Try to wash them off immediately. The sooner you do it, the easier they will be to remove.
3. Less is more when it comes to mixing soap with water. Too much soap will make it hard to rinse leaving soap scum.
4. Wash early or late in the day, avoiding intense sunlight will make it easier to clean because the areas you are working on won’t dry too quickly.
5. Once everything is clean, wax or polish it to make the next cleaning easier. Keep a good coat of wax on all metal hardware to prevent corrosion. You’ll recoup the cost of all the cleaning, polishing and waxing products you use in your investment’s resale value.
6. To help prevent corrosion on seals, hinges, snaps and zippers, they should be coated with water-resistant lubricant. Care must be exercised when applying liquid or spray lubricants. Some are petroleum-based, and drips or overspray may harm gelcoat or clear coat, upholstery and fabric. Shurhold offers a handy stick-style lubricant called Snap Stick.

I do not know what I am doing wrong with the pro polish but on 3 different boats it doesn’t seem to be comming off good. It is leaving a inconsistant finish, almost as if all the wax is not off but it is. Please advise. Thanks.
Whether you’re using Pro Polish by hand or with a buffer, you have to wipe it away with a microfiber towel after you’ve applied it. Apply it directly to a pad, then apply it to the surface in small sections in a circular motion. Work it in until there is only a light haze left, then wipe away what’s left with a microfiber. This should leave your surface shiny. Hope this helps!
Great tips….looking forward to trying the lub on boat hinges.
how much pro polish will be needed to apply 2 coats on a 40′ boat?
The tips on this page have really been helpful. Things I didn’t even think about were brought to my attention and will be useful. I’m doing a detail, the boat is on a trailer. Do I buff and polish every inch of the boat? Meaning even what sits on water????
You should do everything down to the water line. From the waterline down it is just important that it is clean and smooth. It is not worth doing a coat of wax as it will come off quickly under way.
Great tips. Did’t think to use the snap stick on hinges. I’ll be sure to give it a try.
About 2 bottles.
I have (2) slightly Florida sun damaged boats a 2004 Seadoo Sportsters and 2007 Sea Boss (chalky/Dull gunnels only), I’ve used many products to attempt to restore the finish from 3m restore and wax to Collinite Fiberglass cleaner and Wax as recommended on many sites… I’ve been able to get a somewhat of a shine and it is very slick and smooth, but I was hoping to get that new look back… If I purchase your dual orbitor polisher combo plus wool buffing pad and Buff Magic will I improve the finish and have a better chance of getting that new look finish?
Yes. Buff Magic will work wonders. Depending on how bad the start is it might take a couple of passes.
i just did my silverton 410 sportsbridge, top to botton with the shurhold buffer. i couldnt be happier with the mirror shine. i’ve tried buffers before but wasnt doing it right apparently. i applied the polish with an applicator to a small section. maybe 2′ x 2′. make 3 slow passes over the application with the shurhold buffer(alternating side to side with up and down.) the polish breaks down a little on each pass. by the third pass you will be able to wipe off the excess with very little effort and the shine will shock you, i promise.
The windows on my boat seemed to have gotten and etching of rain drops perhaps from acid rain but not sure. Does Shuhold have a product that I can use to buff out the marks using the Shurhold dual action buffer? I assume it would be a buffing compound of some kind. I would appreciate your recommendation.
Buff Magic will do the trick with our new Magic Buff PADS.
