Shurhold at the Junior Angler’s Tournament

On Saturday, August 7, the Shurhold fishing team set out on another fishing adventure! The team spent the morning fishing aboard the Andiamo in the Stuart Sailfish Club’s Junior Angler Tournament. After a long morning of fishing, and seeing dolphins and turtles, the crew headed in to weigh their prized catch: an 11 pound Bonita!

After raffle prizes were given out, Team Shurhold was proud to take home 5th place in the Bonita Division! Congratulations!!

Shurhold Featured in Florida Sport Fishing!

Have you ever wanted an inside look at where and how your Shurhold products are made? Here’s your chance!

Shurhold products are made in the USA, and many  are hand-made; all of your orders are manually packed by one of our amazing team members here in South Florida. Florida Sport Fishing (FSF) magazine came by our factory in April 2010 for a feature article in their series Made in Florida.

The article has been published in the July/August issue of FSF. In it, you’ll find great photos of  the factory and snap-shots of our employees hard at work. The article features many of the items you all have made us famous for, including our one handle that does it all!

We’d like to thank the guys over at FSF for publishing such a great article! Pick up your copy today!!

Fish ON!

Fish On!

Barry went fishing this week with one of his buddies and caught a pretty impressive bonita! That was the start of his day anyways…and it ended with the three nice-size, picture-worthy dolphin to the left (or Mahi-Mahi or Dorado, depending where in the world you live!). They were caught off the St. Lucie Inlet in Stuart, Florida in about 350 feet of water.

He walked into the office that afternoon with a huge smile and his fishing tales, telling us how he had three fish on at one point and ultimately forgot about the peanut left hanging on the third line. His buddy Jeff even got to gaff a fish for the first time.

Well, needless to say when gaffs are involved, there was fish blood everywhere, including their clothes and the topsides of the boat. Coming back to the dock, they faced quite a clean-up job. But hey, if you have to clean it every time you come back anyways, why not have a blast getting it dirty? Barry and Jeff definitely did that for sure!

The problem with fish blood is that is causes serious stains if it’s left uncleaned for too long. Barry wasn’t worried, though, knowing he had Shurhold’s Serious Marine Cleaner on hand. He gave the boat a good wash using Brite Wash, some Shurhold deck brushes and wash mitts, and made sure to remove the fish blood with Serious Marine Cleaner. The best part is, if you regularly maintain your boat, it doesn’t take too much elbow grease to wash it upon returning to the dock.

Happy fishing everyone!

Sun…Camera…Action!

Sun…Camera…Action!

Barry, the president of Shurhold, is featured quite often on Ship Shape TV (SSTV). Currently in its 13th season, SSTV,called America’s favorite boat improvement show, is the brainchild of John Greviskis, who also writes, produces, directs and hosts each episode of the national show.

Lucky for us, SSTV is filmed only 30 minutes from Shurhold’s headquarters in South Florida, so Barry spent the morning filming another segment for SSTV. The segment filmed today was about compounding the interior of a center console (topsides and gunnels) with Buff Magic, the Dual Action Polisher and Buff Magic Pads. Here are some pictures of our movie star in action, as well as pictures alongside John.

Look for the episode that was filmed today to air sometime in June. For more info about SSTV, including bios of the crew and where/when to catch the show, visit www.shipshapetv.com.

Spy Photos of Secret Weapon on Board Pelorus: world’s 16th largest luxury yacht

March 11th, 2010

clip-2010-03-02 07;52;16.dv-3Spy Photos of Secret Weapon on Board Pelorus: world’s 16th largest luxury yacht

I was on vacation last week cruising with the family down in the Caribbean. In the port of St. Martin, I saw Pelorus – the private yacht of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Besides beautiful, this 377-foot yacht has tons of Internet chatter about all of its top secret features like a submarine capable of detecting sea mines and an anti-missile detection system.

Powered by two 3,600-hp Wärtsilä engines, Pelorus has a large pool, Jacuzzi, numerous toys, a tender on board, private movie theater and two helicopter pads. It has room for up to 22 guests and 42 crew members, some of which are even said to be ex-SAS (British special forces).

I’m happy to report I got some great (but fuzzy) shots of probably the most important secret weapon onboard. So what is the weapon that keeps this super yacht glistening on the water? That’s right: a full arsenal of Shurhold gear.

clip-2010-03-02 07;52;16.dv-1At one point, I was able to count five different crew members at the same time scrubbing down the Pelorus with Shurhold handles and attachments. Three crew members were on the back deck scrubbing the teak with handles, swivel pads and stiff scrubber pads. Two other crew members were repelling down the side of the yacht like ninjas working with Shurhold’s 960 soft brush cleaning the hull of the beauty.

So I think it goes with out saying if you want your boat, car or RV to shine like you’re a billionaire, use Shurhold products.

Miami Boat Show – Cold, Small and Interesting

Miami Boat Show – Cold, Small and Interesting

Well I just spent the day at the 2010 Miami Boat Show. I have been attending this show for over 20 years, and I have to say the shrink in the amount of vendors displaying at the convention center is sad (but not really a surprise).  That aside, this show is still one of the greatest collections of boats and boating products put together in a beautiful and tropical place. Well, OK this year was 65 degrees, but the palm trees made it look tropical.

So the show was smaller, the weather was colder, but it still was a very interesting show. Our Shurhold Dual Action Polishers made its Miami Boat Show debut at both the Crook & Crook booth and The Boat Owners Warehouse booth.  The praise has still be great on this product and we are hoping to keep up with the growing demand for the Dual Action Polisher.

In addition to our great items, here are two items that I thought were note worthy at the show:

1. The Bucket Stop

The Bucket Stop is a sturdy non skid base that is designed to minimize sliding, toppling, and damage that can occur from buckets in motion.  What can I say, I love any product that helps to keep things Clean-N-Simple!

2. Autotether

Wireless Lanyard for Fishermen, Sailors, and Recreational Boaters!  Too often I’m out fishing a center console boat and trolling and walking around taking care of the lines.  Now if you fell in, the boat would automatically shut down.  This is probably the next best safety device after the life jacket.  This is defiantly on my soon to buy list.

I will be attending the Palm Beach boat show next and Shurhold will be attending the GSA and National Hardware shows.  More show reports to come.

Squash Those Bugs

Squash Those Bugs

Well, today is the first day of our new improved Web site. With all good things, there is a lot of work and preparation that goes into them. Regardless of how hard you prepare, when it comes to computers, they are full of bugs worse than a two bit motel. So while I have a lot to say about our new site and the many plans we have to make it an interactive and helpful corner of the web, it will have to wait.

This week we will be working on killing the bugs and working out the kinks. Stay tuned for more information and announcements about our official online launch party for the new site.
